ORIGINAL ITALIANO

Cellini Caffè - Originale Italiano

tradition since 1946.

1946

That's how it all started.

In 1946 Amleto Pieri obtained the license to open a business in Livorno and founded his first coffee roastery: the “Columbia” coffee roastery, the second in the city. The work is directed by his son Sergio from Bologna.

This is how the Columbia coffee roasting plant was born with its first laboratory in Livorno on a plot of land in via Buoantalenti and finally the warehouse in via Calzabigi.

1959

The growth.

In 1959, the first coffee roastery was joined by a second in Viale Ugo Conti. Business prospered and Columbia coffee grew in popularity throughout Tuscany. A good time for the whole family, which is abruptly interrupted by Sergio’s illness and death. The sons decide not only to keep the business going, but also to let it grow.

In 1973 a new, modern production facility was opened in Via Guarini, marking the transition from a traditional artisan coffee roasting house to a modern industrial factory.

1990

A major turning point.

In 1990 the family had the opportunity to buy the Ekaf coffee roastery in Genoa, the largest coffee roastery in Liguria and owner of the Eureka and Filicori brands. This is an opportunity not to be missed: managing such a large company, deeply rooted in the territory and active throughout central and northern Italy, is a unique opportunity.

Founded by coffee master Ugo Merialdi, Ekaf is well structured. It consists of well-trained employees and has an efficient organisation, so that the Pieri family only has to contribute their know-how of the coffee roasting industry in order to bring the company to a very high standard.

1996

The creation of the brand.

In 1996, the Cellini project was born from the merger of Columbia with two other historic brands that were also leaders in Italy’s coffee industry: Filicori, founded in Bologna in 1883, and Eureka, founded in Genoa in 1933.

The decision to merge the two historic brands under the Cellini company umbrella is supported by accompanying marketing measures.

2005

New size.

After almost 10 years managed by the Pieri family, Ekaf reaches its maximum production capacity. The Italian espresso is becoming more and more famous all over the world and the Cellini brand becomes synonymous with quality, managing to compete at the international level with the most famous Italian brands.

The need for a new manufacturing facility becomes imperative. In 2005 the new production plant in Genoa-Bolzaneto was completed: about 11,000 m² total area, of which 6,500 are covered, strategically located near the highway. The corporate philosophy is preserved and cultivated in the new production facility.

Meticulous controls are carried out with the use of high-tech Italian machines with the aim of achieving the maximum quality, thus maintaining the tradition of slow roasting, supported by modern production and a certified quality system.
